I went and checked out the refaced G500 today. I like it for $84k. I think I may go ahead and take the plunge.

get a used 1 and s/c it (with kleeman this time :D ), perfect sleeper

unless you lease :dunno:
I've never been too hot over them. If you need an SUV, go for the ML63...that's just my opinion though.

if you really need an suv go for the gl450

from what ive been told from people who have owned/driven the g and my personal experience (3 hours or so in a g55k), its a piece of shit for regular driving. the ride is wayyyyyyyy to bumpy and its very small inside. the layout is uncomfortable and its got c class navi/buttons. it is (g55)unbeatable for presence though. 500 is just isnt worth the $ and sacrifices over a gl or even an ml.(unless you s/c it :D  )
I'm beginning to dig the GL's.
I take my shit offroad, and none of the others even hang with it.
You want to offroad in a G? Why?

What's wrong with a Jeep? Lift, tires...everything is easy and cheap. Throw the difference into a FFR Cobra replica and go blow the doors off 99% of the cars in SD.
I have a Jeep. whats wrong with rolling up yo the summit in a benz?
Nothing, but it won't do it as easily as a lifted Jeep.

Quadra-Drive II FTW!!
dude jangster, i'm 100% with you with the G. it was never meant to be a cruiser. roughs ass ride and rattles like a [email protected]#er but you buy that thing for one reason only, taking it everywhere your 211 can't. i never knew there is an 07 model though? i didn't like the gl's until i so one dumped(airmatic was broken) so if you go that route and ELM is definitely a requirement. they are supposed to be really good for offroading to, lost of suspension travel but the g's are way more solid. just promise me you wont put gay ass 26 bling wheels on it like alot of people do. it defeats the whole purpose of owning a g.
LOL, Roupin. The Quadra Drive is the shit, but the new jeeps are independent axles in the front. The G will actually out run a Jeep offroad.

Yo Assan, never fear, baby. The G will go offroad as much as my Jeep does. No bling in any of my cars.
Do I pay the extra 40K to get the G55? What do i get but the engine and some bull bars?
The G500 will serve you better offroad. It has a more linear power delivery because of the N/A engine, and won't suffer from the blower disengaging at low-speed, high-temp situations.
That is what i was figuring, plus I already ahve the SC one for on road fun.
Yup. The blower is more fun on the road, but it will be a PITA offroad.

I still say you should get a Jeep and get a track car with the money you save ;)
Not much to save, really. A Commander 9like mine) all rigged out is about $50 and a G500 is $85. Also, the newere Jeeps just aren't rugged as the old ones and I don't want a wrangler.

The track car is still a possibility.
Commanders are too big and heavy for offroad. I was thinking Grand Cherokee. Plus Commanders will be discontinued after 2009.

GC is about $40k, right? That's half price from the G500.
Yeah, but the drivetrain is identical on the commander and GC. Fully loaded, it is pushing $45 and still has independent axles. At least the older WJs were worthy.
How serious of an offroader are you? How capable do you need it to be? I'm guessing just minor rivers, some sand, some mud, right?
I go pretty hardcore. you should see the commander now.
