beefing up the drive line

With the addtional HP mods that Renntech and Kleemann offer, has anybody made changes to their transmissions, like additional plates to handle the increases or is the stock tranny up to it?

The stock tranny is strong. It is rated at much more TQ than you will get from any normal mods, especially for running on the street. I haven't even heard of any drag cars getting exploding trannys or diffs.

What does happen, is the entire drivetrain flexes and so smaller components, like bushings, toe links, etc can go bad. This can lead to some funky stuff if it happens at speed and your rear wheel starts to turn.

About the most out really is reinforced toe links. They are the ones that can cause harm (loss of control), should they fail. the bushings are simply a nuisance.

As for gains, I'd say adding 100hp and 100TQ is about it without some crazy stuff. A few have gone higher, but only by mixing and matching mods.
The SL65 Tranz will swap straight over which handles around 1000nm of torque.

You can also replace the stock paper clutches used for lockup in the converter with 3 carbon fiber clutches.

AMG also has a faster shift program as well. I don't know the costs or details but it's available.

I believe AMG has a turnkey solution for around 5-6k.
I know the shift program from AMG is about $5K. More and more tuners are now releasing tranny programs as well (not that I trust em!!)

What up Finny!! Glad to see ya on the upside.
I'd LOVE to see a tranny program that would let the car chirp. I missed blowing sideways on the 1-2 shift so much that I pulled the Buick out of hibernation today and took it for a spin. Literally :D
Hey Jangy... Was that a Hardware & Software solution for 5k total or just the Flash?

Just curious because I've been investigating methods to beef up the box.

Thanks

The $5K I was talking about was strickly software. It could also be had as a part of a package (maybe 030), but I never saw ANY options for tranny hardware.

Finny, your TQ Converter concept interests me. i am not worried about the tranny taking the nms I plan on, bt having a tighter converter would be an added bonus. Do tell....
