Effects of 245/45/17's on a W124

So spring is just around the corner FINALLY and everyone is suggesting me to put on 245/45/17's on my 17x8.5 et 30 AMG Monoblocks for my rears !!

Isnt that like realllllllly wide? For a 1988 W124?
Thats like 18 inches of rubber contact on the asphalt in the rear section.

How much do you guys think the pickup will suffer? Im already scared about gas mileage.

Should I just go 225's all around front and back or should I go 235's all around? Or 225's on the front and 245's on the back !!

I know the 225's will stretch a lil bit on the back, but all the tire stores are like "so what? Its an Euro Car and thats a pure euro look"

Suggestions my beloved w124 brethren ?? :eek:hnoes:

Oh and the fronts are 17x7.5 et 35

Don't listen to the tire stores, your wheels will stick out further than your tires with 225's on 8.5 inch wheels. It will look retarded, especially since you're running a staggered setup.

225/245 is your best bet.

Thats what i thought, but what about performance issues or fuel economy issues?

I mean like, the inline 6 isnt pumping a beast amount of power...sadly
wow Fezz...

245 you will rub like a mofo.

The widest I'd go on a non-500E W124 would be 235's...
There you have your answer. I didn't know W124's had such narrow wheelwells :dunno:
haha...i have 215's all around... :D then again, my rims arent as wide as yours....

But im not lowered, like I said earlier, I can win a rock crawling contest...lol !!

Unless you think I will rub the inner wheel wells with et 30 !!

So what should I do? Get 235's all around or sell those lovely bad boys ?

or 225 on the front and 235 on the back ?

On 8.5" wheels? :wtf:

xudeck, if you're buying your tires from a mom and pop place, tell them you'll buy 235's if they fit without rubbing. You can try it on before you buy. When we're not sure what'll fit, that's what we always try.
Whats a mom and pop place? lol

Once again, my car is not lowered at all. Its not even at stock lowered height. Its jacked up for some retarded reason. Why should there be rubbing issues?

The diameter still stays the same as of the stock 195/65/15's !! If anything the wheels will stick out, which I have no problems with. I know the fronts wont rub with 225's !!

The rear's with 235's I have to find out, if they will be stretched out or not. I don't think they will.

So I am guessing, no one has put 245's on their non 500E w124 ?
Plus, the wheels already have 245's on the rear. They have no traction and are totally bald. Should I just put one of the rear's on to see what happens ?
Since you already have it, go for it! Just don't try to set any speed records with those tires.
I guess I will have to get my hands dirty this weekend.

No speed records? Damn, you spoiled my dreams. I was hoping to touch 20 kmph on my street !! lol
