FEELER: Who's up for a nationwide meet?

1025 Views 36 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  SDSilverM3
Chris and I were kicking this idea around last week -

Who's up for a big-ass nationwide meet in Houston sometime late summer or early next spring? I figure Houston is about half-way between the coasts, there's tons of places to go, photo-ops, etc.

Henry and Brett and all of the other north-easterners could caravan down together, Chris and the rest of the SoCal crew could cruise out on I-10, I think it would kick ass!

So, what do you guys think? :dunno:

Paid time off aka vacation time. :)

h-town!
You guys need to get a lil taste of the Texas interstates. I hit the speed limiter once and set it on cruise control. I cruised this mother at the limiter for a while. LOL

No twisties here. BMWs lose here. :D :D

I do that here all the time. In fact, the freeways here can get so empty at times, I've had time to experiment with my cars.

Buick:
The Buick tops out at 143 with all 4 windows down. Above 135 the front windows don't have enough power to go up, the rears are fine though. With the windows closed, it gets to 152.

The wipers start to flutter at over 125. If you happen to raise them, they won't come back down above 140.

The cruise control still sets at 152. If you happen to pop it in neutral, it'll bounce off the rev limiter.

Changing lanes at 150 is not such a good idea. You'll learn to never do it again.

Jeep:
It slooooowly gets to 114. It has almost no power at that speed though so it bounces off the governor every 10 seconds or so.

Don't ever change lanes. Period.

If you open all 4 windows, any paper or plastic bags will fly up, circle in the back of the car, and promptly exit out the driver's side rear window.

Both Caddies:
You could easily fall asleep provided you're not trying to stay in one lane. it takes intence concentration to keep the damn things in a straight line.

The only car I've never topped out is the C230, and that's because by the time it hit 110 I forgot what I was on the freeway for. That's really an uninspiring car.

The E350 is uneventful when topped out. Just don't stick your hand out the sunroof. It hurts.

Oh, and if you pop it in neutral while on cruise control, it cancels the cruise.

Holy cow, pop it in neutral? How are you gonna get it back in Drive? That's torture to the tranny.
So far, the response looks pretty good. I'll leave this up for a few more days, then we'll get a poll started for a date.

I'll need some local help with organizing... Newton?
Just nudge the lever until "D" lights up again :dunno:

Another discovery: if you pop it in Reverse at anything above 15mph, the Buick just stays in neutral. I found that out at 85 on the freeway :wall:

An interesting point I'm waiting to try...the E350 has two reverse gears. I wonder if it will shift up into the 2nd reverse gear at redline :D
