Jangy's camera is a damn nice piece, and the video quality is very impressive...even at night!

It's a Sony HDR-SR1.

You may also want to wait until Jeff and Ling see this thread, since they know about other cameras as well.

Brett, you're right. Most cams only do one thing great and the other function is usually lacking. You might want to check out the Canon TX1 thread I posted in this forum. It is both a 7.1mp digicam with HD video capability. The review I posted of the camera is a little on the "too critical" side because people have been raving about it on www.dpreview.com. Might be worth checking out.

I have the same camera and the HD feature is outstanding at 1080i. Still photography is only at 4.0 megapixel though, but then again, it's NOT meant for dual purpose.

I think it's worth looking into the Canon TX1 as Ling suggested cuz he knows his stuff.

Brett, are you looking for something that is geared towards recording video or stills?

For Video definitely stick to Sony where they own most of the market and for stills it is definitely Canon's market. Unfortunately there is no hybrid that does both things exceptionally well. It's one or the other.

Thanks Ling for the info, and thanks guys...

I'm leaning towards the TX1, because it can do both, although I'd say I'm thinking it's like only 70/30 video to stills....

Bleh, maybe I'll just get one for each and quit whining....

Make sure you try it out at a retail store before you buy it. :)

Yeah, I was in the local Fry's yesterday, they didn't have the TX1 in stock yet. They had an HV10 that looked nice... I'll keep looking, and I'll definitely check out the HDR-SR1.

Thanks!
HDR-SR1 all the way for video.
