Hi all! My name is Branden, I am the Motorsports Director for HGmotorsports based in La Jolla, CA (San Diego area). We met Jay (Capri E55) at the San Diego auto show so we thought we would sign up.

We are the motorsports division of Heinz Gietz Autohaus which is the only factory authorized Mercedes-Benz service center in the country. The shop has been around since 1969 but the racing shop is new as of last year. Currently we are racing a 550 horsepower Mitsubishi Evo in NASA (North America Sportscar Association) in the class TT-U, we also race it in most time attacks such as Redline and Super Street. We are embarking on a new project, an AMG C55 World Challenge car which we are hopefully going to start building later next month.

So if you guys need any service or want to come chat with us about doing some performance work on your MB feel free to email us, give us a call, or just drop by. Ask for Dieter (owner) or me, Branden.

Welcome, and nice to have you on here. :)

How about holding an open-house for the board sometime?

We were thinking of doing an open house but we thought maybe something like a country drive out to Escondido to go wine and cheese tasting might be more MB appropriate. As soon as we decide on the location I will post a poll in the events section to find the best day to do it so everyone can come. We are aiming for the late April/early May time so if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations on a location I am always up for ideas.

I would definitely be interested in a meeting and a tour of the facility. From what i am hearing, you are capable and willing to do work on MBs? We are currently setting up just such a thing at a local shop, but it may be prudent to speak to you about rates, etc. Sample jobs would be install of headers, LSDs, suspensions, etc.
Can you comment if your facility would also offer sales of parts or is it stricktly install? Also, would you be interested in any custom work, like setting up a car for the track? I am looking to find vendors, etc for making components, but would prefer to have capable hands handling the cars.

Back to the open house or meet up. I prefer to keep it to a forum where we can discuss potentials vs a ride where we just stare at the air.

I really think you may benefit from an open house or a meeting with us to really explain what your capabilities are. Performance modifications have become a HUGE topic for us of late.
Don't let the cars fool you, we're not the preppy wine and cheese type. We want to see the skidmarks on the ground, smell the carbon monoxide and go deaf listening to open headers.

Open house > wine and cheese. Just have a bunch of cars sitting around so we don't get bored
The only WhINE these guys need is that of the supercharger.
Well holy cow, I am impressed! We are more of the BBQ and beer guys ourselves so something along those lines is definately a better choice in our book.

To answer the previous questions yes we can do all of that! We are sick and tired of customers pinching pennies over a $100k car. We have always done the odd set of headers, or exhaust or rear diff but they come in once in a blue moon. We are racers through and through and we know more about Mercedes-Benz than most shops in America, the problem has been getting the word out. Our passion is building race cars and installing performance parts but the majority of MB owners, especially in San Diego, dont want to modify their cars. We dont typically stock performance parts because of the lack of customers but we can get or install anything you could want to do to your Mercedes-Benz.

LOL!! Getting the word out is what i do. We need to talk. You came to the right forum for that. Not only is SoCal (including San Diego) a huge hotbed for MB cars, the typical buyer has begun to shift to a younger and much more mod friendly group. Much of that is driven by the depreciating values of the the supercharged MBs. Just to give you a small glimps of what we are up to for right now, read the thread about developing our own headers. We are definitely not talking 1 offs. We would easily be able to bring in 10 cars at a pop for major work. In retrun, we want some voice in the work and a break on the price. Thats it. Everyone wins and we can even have beers and burgers in the mean time. I'd like to see the shop asap. I really think it would be prudent from your end to do some research into our group and our intentions as you may find it to be a nice fit. I'm off to the Q, but I'll follow up.
