There is a guy on mbworld who put a rear mount single on his e55 but I wasn't involed so I don't know specifics. The system I built for my friend/mechanic has yet to be completed by him.

Any car with a straight/inline engine should have the turbo in the bay because there is more than enough room. Especially in Mercedes.

No he's using my old t3/60-1 since something got into the T70 and killed it. He dropped a bolt down the exhaust pipe installing it and is having a hell of a time tryin to get it out. Since we both work and go to school we havn't had time to meet up and resolve that little issue.

Ok. Im a noob dont hurt me.
How much would a turbo for a clk500 be?
i cant stop considering buying an m3 or clk

on a 5 cylinder 1979 Mercedes 300SD turbo diesel ... what is possible?

... possible to keep the existing stock turbo in the front and add a single rear mount?

... other?

Just replace the existing turbo.

A Garrett T3 or Holset HX30, good 2.25" intercooler pipe, a 2.5" exhaust from the turbo to the back, and a modified or aftermarket injection pump will completely transform the car.

DervTuning modifes the 5cyl pumps and elements. Their cars are quite impressive. Go to superturbodiesel.com for more info.

Wow Great thread! I have a kind of an oddball car which I want to turbo. I have a 2004 Crossfire (mechanically identical to a R170 SLK320) which I put a 2002 CL500 M113 V8 into. I came up with a theory to reprogram the CL500 ECU to my car. becuase it was an unproven theory, I had to keep costs down and found a CL500 engine with less than a 1,000 miles on it. the car is quick and pretty light. Since I did this conversion others have used what I learned to install 55K engines into the Crossfire. So I need to keep up and add some boost! I have absolutely no room left in the engine compartment. I don't have room to bring the charge pipe up near the engine. The only way I can get the charge pipe to the throttle body is to run it past the sway bar (not good) up in front of the radiator and then through the air intake opening on the passeger side near the top of the radiator.

Exciting stuff! I'd love to turbo my '92 500E. Would i just follow the M119 prescription on page 1, or are other things required? What about tuning/fuel management? Very curious about this! Also, do you do installs? I'm curious how far over my head this may be.

Thanks!

What programmer can be used for the M272? Can a simple piggy back unit be used?

would you suggest rebuildin my 420SEL's motor before doing this it's all original with 205 thousand miles on it and it's always been perfectly maintained and has had filter/fluid changes all on scheduled times

The AEM F/IC can be used on the M272 although I would use the F/IC-8 which handles the timing retard better.

You may get by at 205K but not for long. The heads would be the first to go followed by ring lands or skirts on the pistons. Rebuild the heads and slap some new pistons in there with a general rebuild and you'll be good to boost for a long while. You can fit twin turbo's in the engine bay of w126's.

the timing chains on those engines snap like pencils every 100k miles.

better be careful. i never liked the m116/m117 engines

YUPP just got a new one  and the owner before had done the proper servicing of changing it at 110 K too

If it is as well maintained as you say then it could probably be turbocharged, converted to a megasquirt controlled semi-squential EFI and run around 6-8psi. Since it's a 4.2L it could use small T3 turbo chargers and have a 400-450whp capable system with room to spare. I know Subaru EJ20 pistons fit the M117 4.2L's(if you wanted to make it a little stronger) and lower the compression significantly if you ever wanted to build it up.

Awesome dude Thanks! if i did this it wouldn't be for at least 4 years or so i'm pickin up something special next year but after that's gotten I may have to look into this for the 420 that'd be awesome

Do you think that my C36 would survive a turbo? Engine now has 170k on it. Still runs great besides the crap coil pack that i still need to replace.

Iv rebuilt quite a few motors, but Nissans and Chevys are a lot easier to source parts for.. I havent really looked, but im guessing I would need custom rods and pistons if i wanted to beef up the internals. Im just wondering what the stock block and crank can hold.... Not to mention the tranny that will most likely not survive any amount of added power....
