The AMG Private Lounge members on the East pulled off a successful 2 day event last year which included drag racing, dyno runs, tech session with AMG/MB employees and AMG had the SLK Black series on hand. I was inspired by Chappy & Beowulf and received some guidance on how to pursue something on the West. I did some leg work into the cost and location of doing a 2 day event in CA and to see if we could also get some cars (not to drive) for show and AMG personnel for a Q&A/Tech Session and the answer was yes. This event would not be a free event and some owners are going to absorb the initial cost to make this happen so please be sincere when you reply...

Dates would be June 1st/June 2nd if we did a drag strip event or June 2nd & June 3rd if we did a 1.3-1.5 Autocross/Road Course event. Cost for the drag event would be no more than $200 and that is if only about 50 people are interested cost of the AutoCross/Road Course would be around $300 with 50 people. Cost would be reduced if more than 50 people attend the event. The track autocross/road course or the drag strip day would be setup, so everyone, regardless of the type of MB you drive, would have fun.

General idea is day one would be the track event and then day two would be the "Meet" day with the addition of some nice AMG cars, awards lunch & drinks(no host bar) and Q&A/Tech Session with folks from MBUSA/AMG. This would only be open to MB owners (exceptions could be made for mymbonline) and mostly likely an early registration for AMG PL and MBCA members.

What is the general feedback for this type of event? Would people drive from NoCal, AZ and NV? Is the cost reasonable/acceptable for a two day event? The event would be in Orange County except the dragstrip would be about an hours drive from Irvine at Irwindale.

If enough people want to come from out of town we can also try to negotiate hotel rates...Also so that none of the owners who are willing to help make this happen from a financial standpoint are left holding the bag we would require pre-registration and payment about a month or so before the event.

Shelle,

My vote goes with the June 2nd & 4rd AutoX/Road Course Meet.

Sounds like a awesome idea that I'm VERY interested in attending. All of us drive insane already as it is - it would be nice to see what we all can do out on the track. Is there a certain track that you had in mind? I've noticed nothing was listed in the post other than the Drag Strip day Irwindale even though that's only 1/8Mile strip.

All in all, count me on the list if this happens.

+1 :drive:
After reading some PM's from Jangy we could try some different options for the track. The initial plan was to use El Toro. It appears the further you have to drive the more people who flake. Here is a link to El Toro http://www.eltorofield.com/. I checked out a PCA event and the SCCA also does monthly event here as well.

If this is the option people like we would need a lot of member support for this one, course design corner workers, starters etc.. Only other draw back is they want the course designed in a way where speed is limited. With that said it is an open airstrip so unless you get into a really crazzzzy spin you will not hit anything.
El Toro is a really nice place to set up a cone-style track.

My friends usually go there for track days and they always come back a happy camper afterwards.

if there is any help needed - I'm more than willing to help so we can make this happen! :D
why not do what the supraforums.com crew does?

hold the event in las vegas. theres canyons to carve and road tracks and drag strips that are much better than so cal. plus, its vegas...who doesnt love vegas? but i sure like the idea of a regional meet.

the supra crew has somethign setup where they have a huge portion of the parking lot assigned to the group and on a particular day, theres a show and shine event as well. just throwing it out there for you guys to think bout it
Why not Willow? It is $5000 for the day and includes EVERYTHING, including lunch and all workers.

I'm down with any road course that is picked. What I would not be interested in is a drag day or a track that is NOT speed focussed. I do not want to autocross my car.

El Diable is a "fun" place, but the liability is usually cost prohibitive.
I would love to do Willow. The original idea was to do something that would draw a large diverse crowd. I figured the closer the better. El Toro is twice as much as Willow that is why a larger number of people would need to attend to make it feasible. Insurance could be covered by MBCA so that it was not crazy.

Based upon initial feedback it might be better to focus on a smaller crowd and do Willow and then day two at a facility large enough for big parking lot meet with the folks from AMG.

If we do Willow wouldn't we want to limit the number of people? I can call and see if it is available on June 2nd?
Shelle, you are correct in assuming the number of flakers will increase if the location is too far. The hardcore guys will go regardless but the on-the-fence ones will most certainly drop out. I picked the latter option as well. Thanks for coordinating this.

very TRUE :wall:
I am getting final numbers next week from El Toro and then we can decide from there. You do not get high speeds but El Toro would be nice because all cars can have some fun and with the heat in June it is nice alternative to a full on track day. This would be a nice intro to folks who may want to track their cars but none of the worries: tires, will i damage my car, am I too slow.....
