20D is predecessor. Go for 30D.
Same thing, really. 30D is newer, has a bigger screen and some other minor additional features. Whatever fits your budget but the 20D will be cheaper.

I know SQUAT about cams and I will be asking Ling, Jose, and Frank tons of questions, but is this a good camera for a beginner?
So I take it, it only accepts Sony lenses (which aren't as readily available as Canon or Nikon lenses)?
