Used car extended warranty

Hey guys, I wasn't sure where to put this topic so I just chose this one.
I was wondering about an extended warranty for my car. I have just recently heard some good things about them and I think they're probably a good idea since the price of one that covers 5yrs/100,000mi is 1/2 the price of a transmission replacement. What do you guys think about these? Anyone know of any good warranty companies?

In the state of California you cannot buy directly an extended warranty from the company itself. You must go through a dealership. Their reasoning is to prevent people from getting ripped off.

I've had an extended warranty on my M3 purchased through WarrantyGold in the past. No problems there. I'm not too sure what's out there nowadays besides the extended MB warranty.
I also think it is a great idea, especially if you want to keep it.

GEEEZ More bad news!!! :wall: 1st: The guy I was trading CF work for some Work VS-XX wheels BACKS OUT; 2nd: My machine shop buddy at work(who was helping me fab my suspension parts) just got laid off; and now I can't get an affordable extended warranty in CA? CRAP-o-RAMA!!!! And this all happened in 1 day!
On the other hand it is FRIDAY!

Sorry to hear about the bad news. Were the Work wheels going on your C43?
FRIDAY WOO!! I'm going surfing.

Yeah, they were. What a crock, eh?
If you need a machine shop, I know a great guy. You may can barter your skills with his?

GPM Engineering in San Marcos. His work is top notch enough to where HRE tried to contract him to make wheels for them.

Thanks, Jangy. I'll keep that in mind.

Sucks cuz we have a great machine shop here at work, it's just my friend was willing to do all of my stuff for pizza. He's a MB guy also '95 S430 that he never ever drives.
'95 S430 doesn't sound right :hmm

Be careful about what's covered under the warranty as well. A friend with a Ford F250 just blew the PS pump, and the extended warranty just covered the cost of a rebuild, and no coverage on the hoses or fluid. So the rest of the job came out of his pocket.

S420? :dunno:
Anybody look at Warranty Direct?
I have them for the P car, they came highly recommended by my p car friends.

I did look at Warranty Direct and they don't warranty '99 and older cars. :dunno:
I think it'll be relatively hard to warranty an 8 year old car for any reasonable cost. If your car is not heavily abused or falling apart, I wouldn't even bother spending the time to find the warranty. It won't be cheap, and it won't be worth it. There is also a risk that the smaller, cheaper companies will not follow through come claim time.
Yeah, i'm coming to that conclusion. My car is fine, it's just coming to that mileage where my transmission is supposed to crap out. I was hoping to just pay around 1500 for a warranty instead of $3500 for a tranny. Oh well, i'll just set up a savings account or something and make my own warranty plan.
I keep having to remind myself that MB's are more expensive to maintain than the american cars I'm used to. For $3500 I could get a race prepped Stage III trans, guaranteed to handle abo0ut 700 horses :drive:
