As a beater, you can't go wrong. That's your best bet when it comes to having a car you don't care about.
If you can sacrifice a little bit of utility, look into the 1997-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokees. They are dirt cheap now, have enough power to move, parts are CHEAP, and they last forever. Everyone knows how I drive, and I've driven my Jeep harder than anything else. I've NEVER broken a single part. I just had the rear bearings replaced, a tranny sensor, and the radiator in its whole lifetime. Everyone overlooks these cars, but look into them seriously. Still runs strong even after past redline shifts and 5k mile oil changes. Mine is a 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo.
